Playing Catch-Up

Its weird... a chance meeting with an old face while waiting for Carmen at Narita Airport a coupla months back sparked a series of events - which in turn led to a really old face from me college days messaging me again last night. It had been a good 2-3yrs since we last talked properly.

We ended up chatting solid for like 5hrs about old times and everything in between... it was like nothing had changed at all. We remember the same events, the same friends, still have the same ideas and talk the same way [...INIT!...]. It was pretty sweet actually - he had wanted to say something all this time but didn't know how (Mainly coz my first response went along the reply of "Hey! You shagged my ex ya bastard! =รพ" [Keke! Actually I had no ill-feeling towards the guy at all, it was a good tension breaker and also nice to spank that elephant out of the room as early as poss.]), but once that was over with, it was fantastic to be able to chat to my best mate from back in the day again. (^_^)

Actually its not all that weird. The guts of the oddness comes from the fact that this is just the latest in a bunch of lil things happening where my past lives are slowly catching up to my latest most current life... it had never happened like this before where I'm so... aware of it happening. Weird to explain.

Facebook is another catalyst where old faces started popping up again, almost to the point where we were recreating our old AsianAvenue posts... (I'm looking at you... Lumpy Lun Pei... (¬_¬)

In the past I used to prefer to keep my groups separate coz... actually I dunno why... I think coz I used to have different faces for different people... I was less secure about people finding out about the "other" sides of me. For lordy knows what reason.

But now, I'm actually enjoying mixing up the groups and intro-ing people from the different walks to each other - my Jappy people being the most "lucky" *sniggers* - having met at least one person from almost every part of the life of Brian.

Is this a sign of me finally becoming comfy with myself?
Am I really gaining some self-confidence??
Am I really... growing up???
*shudders* (O_o)

Oh btw... my best mate from way back when?
Ed's always been pretty talented. =)

Why didn't anybody told me Da Daddy himself: Chow Yun Fat is gonna be in At World's End?!?! O_o

I have some serious man-crush on this guy... ^__^

Signs that its time to move on to the Next Country...

I've lived in Japan for a year, two months and nineteen days now...

Today I bought a regular can of Coke from a vending machine without thinking about it.

Its actually the first time I bought a Coke since arriving in the country... usually I go for the weirdest llama-sweatjuice drink I can find.

Aieeee me subconscious is talking to meeee...

Been covering family tree's in a coupla classes lately, and I finally managed to count the number of cousins I have - 19! And they're still breeding too... with the latest one having only just arrived this January. 19 cousins is pretty average for a chinese family - but from what I gathered from speaking to others, what makes my family a bit more special (^_^) is the fact that we all actually know each other. We all grew up pretty close to each other and my best childhood memories are of those with the extended brats. Cranium Dream Team baby.

So just for the hell of it, I feel like making a list, in family order...

Michelle, Debbie, Albert, Simon, Silas, Sidney, (Brian, Shireen, Ethan I), Katie, Ken, BB Samantha, Christian, Gavin, Alice, Cindy, Rise, Joe, Bill, Annabel, Thomas, Ethan II...

Its also been about 10yrs since I got my first job, so I'm gonna make another list... in chronological order here are all the real job titles I've ever held...

Network Support Technician, Systems Troubleshooter, Assembly Engineer, 1st Line Technical Support, Sales Assistant, Factory Worker, Onsite Support Technician, Ticket Vendor, Screen Cleaner, Concessions Vendor, Flash Site Developer, Barista, Helpdesk Engineer, Website Developer, Website Manager, Systems Programmer, IT Developer, English Teacher.

...I think I might have commitment issues. (¬_¬)

Goodies! II

One of my students, Mizuki, told me today that she would be unexpectedly moving down to Kyoto - and that today was actually her last lesson with me. It was a pretty sad moment - coz she'd only joined around 6 months ago and was really settling into the class really really well and was actually one of the reasons that made my Fridays enjoyable.

Also unexpected was the goodbye gift she gave me - a pretty CK hankerchief/towel thingy... I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it, but its possibly the most stylish present I have ever received from a 7yr old.

Is It Weird That...

- I can't seem to talk to or trust people who seem genuinely happy with their lives

- I'm beginning to enjoy that icky feeling when peeling out my contacts

- I love cheesey-assed movies like The Holiday coz its full of lil cheesey-assed moments that make me giggle to myself... in a manly way. *grunt* ¬_¬

The Japanification of My Arse.

You know, when I first moved into my apartment 6months ago, I thought that the jet-wash function on me toilet would be something that was fun but gimicky - not really a feature I would use reguarly. I didnt really believe my students when they told me that I'd get used to it (this is the kinda stuff we usually talk about in class)...

But now; whenever I goto a public loo - I'm finding myself missing that extra-thoroughly clean feeling you get from having a cool stream of water spraying direct and true, washing away the mushy and watery bits, breaking apart the hard and clingy bits.

Multiple passes of 2-ply just doesnt cut it no more... not even if its quilted.

Perks of the job...

Was talking to my student today about how I've been thinking about getting a snowboard - coz I really did love love looooove it that much from just the one trip - but was questioning whether its a good idea coz my nomadic plans for the future makes it difficult to see if I'd ever have another opportunity again anytime soon (tho I really would jump at every available chance to go again)...

So what does my student do?
He offers to give me his snowboard coz he hasn't ridden it in about 5yrs.

I told him I couldn't accept the offer - especially since half the cutlery, wine glasses and plates in my apartment are from him and his wife as well...

So instead, I'm now free to "borrow" the snowboard anytime I find myself going on a ski-trip. Hee!
